It’s Been A Year Since Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Ended And Fans Can’t Get Enough Of Two Blue Vortex

It’s hard to believe it’s been a whole year since the conclusion of part 1 of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime. This spin-off of the iconic Naruto series began in 2017 and came to an end in March 2023 after a total of 293 episodes. Part 1 of the Boruto manga finished soon after, with the first chapter of part 2, Two Blue Vortex, released in August of last year. Chapter 7 reached fans earlier this week and it didn’t disappoint.

The Naruto manga was first published in 1999 and is now the sixth best-selling manga of all time. The anime achieved widespread success and acclaim during its run from 2002 to 2007, followed in 2008 by Naruto Shippuden, which is ranked as one of the top anime series. Any fears that this may have been the end of the story were put to rest with the publication of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generation manga in 2016 and its anime adaptation in 2017.

Moving a story from one generation to the next is never easy. By necessity, the characters we have come to know and love must give way to a new cast, who sometimes don’t live up to our hopes and expectations. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is no exception, with some fans feeling that the new characters are too similar to the original cast, while others felt the pace was much slower compared to Naruto and were frustrated by the number of filler episodes.

One thing most fans agree on is that the fight scenes in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime are a triumph. The Chunin Exam was a fan favorite, showing the fights in detail and with impressive animation. In the manga, the exam was interrupted, and many readers were disappointed that they did not see the fight to its end. Another fight that thrilled fans was the showdown between Naruto and Isshiki Otsutsuki, one of the show’s most formidable antagonists. Fans and critics alike were awed when Naruto tapped into the power of Baryon mode, allowing him to defeat his powerful enemy.

Boruto himself has been an interesting character to follow. Many fans have applauded his similarities to Naruto, but also the differences that make him his own character. One of the defining events for Boruto in both the manga and the anime comes when he fights Momoshiki Otsutsuki and is branded with the Kama, allowing Boruto to access Momoshiki’s experience and power. This ultimately leads to Kawaki, his adoptive brother, determining to kill Boruto as part of his quest to rid the world of all Otsutsuki. The end of part 1 sees the rewriting of history such that Boruto is now the outcast from the village. Fans were stunned and excited by the glimpse of the story following the time skip of 3 years. It’s generally agreed that this time skip was an inspired decision on the part of the writers, paving the way for even better plot arcs in part 2. So far, Two Blue Vortex has been a hit among fans of the manga, and those who love the anime can’t wait for the next series.

The big question now is when will that series happen? A new chapter of the Two Blue Vortex is released every month, with chapter 7 reaching fans earlier this week. As for the next anime series, no release date has been confirmed; most feel it may happen this year at the earliest, while others speculate about a much later release date. It’s never easy to contemplate a long wait for the next installment of a much-loved series, but from what we’ve seen so far, part 2 will be worth the wait.
