Finds of the Week 008: Monsters, Men, And Mustaches
Welcome to Finds of the Week #8! We’re coming to you with big names you’ll definitely recognize and products we know you’ll love. Fans of horror, fans of space operas, fans of ghosts, and fans of Italian plumbers with wonderful mustaches – read closely. These are the finds for you.
CHAINSAW MAN MANGA BOX SET, VOLUMES 1-11
If you liked our Berserk recommendation from a few weeks ago, you’ll love this. Chainsaw Man, the best-selling manga series written by Tatsuki Fujimoto, is packed with horror, violence, and lots and lots of blood. Fujimoto, a long-time fan of horror, infuses his work with a love for the genre and a deep appreciation of complex, nuanced characters living in a violent world. The story follows a young, impoverished man named Denji who, as a result of a betrayal, becomes fused with his Devil-dog and turns into Chainsaw Man. What follows is blood, blood, and more blood. This box set contains the first 97 chapters of the manga in 11 volumes, also known as the Public Safety Arc. Get it now on Amazon.
SUPER MARIO RPG ON NINTENDO SWITCH
Super Mario + RPG + Nintendo = the best thing you’ll find this summer (well, maybe – there are always next week’s finds). But seriously, this remake of the 1996 Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is a beautiful and faithful reproduction of a classic, much-loved game. It’s funny, its combat system is great, and it looks amazing. For old Super Mario fans, it’s the best kind of trip down memory lane with some new and creative features along the way. For new fans – you need to play it to understand. Get it now on Amazon.
CTHULHU: DEATH MAY DIE BOARD GAME
We told you this was the week for horror fans. Cthulhu was first introduced by author H.P. Lovecraft nearly 100 years ago, a Great Old One who inspires fear and insanity in all who see him. In Cthulhu: Death May Die, you and your fellow players are investigators in the 1920s working to summon the Elder Gods, including Cthulhu, so you can defeat them permanently. The catch? You’re insane and your insanity, at some point, will influence whether you achieve your goals or not. When we did our top 10 board games for game night, this game was number eleven. Get it now on Amazon.
LEGO STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE TANTIVE IV BUILDABLE PLAYSET
We all remember Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers boarding the Tantive IV in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The smoke, the music, the iconic rasp of his respirator, it’s a moment no Star Wars fan will forget. Celebrating its 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars, the world’s biggest toy company has recreated the scene in all its glory. The set features seven LEGO figurines, including Darth Vader, two Stormtroopers, two Rebel Fleet Troopers, and Captain Antilles, plus a special 25th-anniversary mini-figure of Arc Trooper Fives with a display stand. Get it now on Amazon.
GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE (4K ULTRA HD + BLU RAY + DIGITAL)
Ghostbusters has been a pop culture staple for decades. It’s practically impossible to hear the name without thinking, “Who you gonna call?” Well, there’s something strange in the neighborhood again. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire follows on from the 2021 movie Ghostbusters: Afterlife with our same beloved characters and a whole new host of ghouls for them to battle. It’s everything we hope for from a Ghostbusters movie: a little bit silly and a whole lot of fun. Get it now on Amazon.
Ghosts, demons, Stormtroopers, and a princess in need of rescue – there’s enough on this list to keep you busy for a while. Or at least until our next Finds of the Week article.
