Everything We Know About ‘The Mandalorian’ Video Game, Movie, And Season 4
A Mandalorian video game is in the works at Respawn Entertainment. There have been lots of rumors ever since Respawn announced a host of Star Wars games back in 2022, but the official confirmation is music to fans’ ears. Here’s everything we know so far about the game, and when we might expect to see Din Djarin and Grogu back on our screens.
In an exclusive report, Insider Gaming revealed that a first-person Star Wars Mandalorian video game is in early production at Respawn Entertainment. As an unnamed Mandalorian bounty hunter, players will journey across multiple planets in pursuit of bounties. It’s understood that the gameplay will be linear, rather than an open-world setting. Players can expect a fast-paced, high-mobility game. The iconic Mandalorian jetpack will allow vertical jumping, horizontal dashing, boost sliding, and other motions. According to current reports, it looks like it will be a single-player game, and the release date is estimated as being at least 1-2 years away.
So far, fan reactions to the news have been mixed. Many fans are calling for third-person gameplay and lamenting the long wait ahead, given that the game is in early production. Others would prefer an open-world format. But all agree that it’s something to get excited about, with Respawn’s history of exceptional games including Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
So what other Mandalorian projects are in the pipeline? It’s nearly a year since season 3 of the popular TV series aired. While the finale tied off a lot of the main story arcs, it’s reported that creator Jon Favreau has already written season 4. Production was initially delayed due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, but no new production date has been announced yet. And with The Mandalorian & Grogu movie now set to begin production in June 2024, many fans are wondering whether season 4 will happen after the movie, or even at all.
In a short interview with Entertainment Tonight, Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni dodged a question about The Mandalorian season 4, joking “You know me better than to commit to any one thing” and saying that he is excited for The Mandalorian & Grogu. His comments have been taken in a number of ways. LRMonline speculated that the season 4 story has been incorporated into the new movie. An article from ScreenRant suggested that both will happen. The question is whether season 4 will be set before or after the movie, and how the stories will impact each other. With The Mandalorian & Grogu set for a 2026 release, there could be time for a fourth season of the TV series. The Bespin Bulletin threw another spanner in the works by predicting that The Mandalorian & Grogu would act as the season finale to a six-episode season 4.
Ultimately, we have lots of speculation and few answers at the moment. As expected, Disney execs are holding their cards very close to their chests. But it’s safe to say that, between the video game, movie, and TV show, we have a lot to look forward to from The Mandalorian franchise.
