A Year After ‘Boruto: Naruto Next Generations’ Anime Ended, Manga Fans Love ‘Two Blue Vortex’

Read Time:3 Minute, 15 Second

It’s hard to believe it’s been a whole year since the conclusion of part 1 of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime. This spin-off of the iconic Naruto series began in 2017 and came to an end in March 2023 after 293 episodes. Part 1 of the Boruto manga finished soon after, with the first chapter of part 2, Two Blue Vortex, released in August 2023. Chapter 7 reached fans earlier this week and it didn’t disappoint.

First published in 1999, the Naruto manga by Masashi Kishimoto is now the sixth best-selling manga of all time. The anime achieved widespread success and acclaim during its run from 2002 to 2007.  It was followed in 2008 by Naruto Shippuden, which still ranks as one of the top anime series. Any fears that this may have been the end of the story were put to rest with the 2016 Boruto: Naruto Next Generation manga, followed by its anime adaptation in 2017.

Moving a story from one generation to the next is never easy. The characters we know and love must give way to a new cast, who sometimes don’t live up to our hopes and expectations. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is no exception. Some fans feel that the new characters are too similar to the original cast, while others are frustrated by the slower pace and filler episodes.

One thing most fans agree on is that the fight scenes in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations are a triumph. The Chunin Exam was a fan favorite, showing the fights in detail and with impressive animation. In the manga, the exam was interrupted, and many readers were disappointed that they did not see the fight to its end. Another fight that thrilled fans was the showdown between Naruto and Isshiki Otsutsuki, one of the show’s most formidable antagonists. Fans and critics alike were awed when Naruto tapped into the power of Baryon mode, allowing him to defeat his powerful enemy.

Boruto himself is an interesting character to follow. Many fans applaud his similarities to Naruto, but also how he stands apart from his father. One of the defining events for Boruto in both the manga and anime comes when he fights Momoshiki Otsutsuki and is branded with the Kama, allowing him to access Momoshiki’s experience and power. This ultimately leads to Kawaki, his adoptive brother, determining to kill Boruto as part of his quest to rid the world of all Otsutsuki. The end of part 1 sees the rewriting of history such that Boruto is now an outcast. Fans were stunned and excited to glimpse how the story continues after the 3-year time skip. We have every hope that this time jump will pave the way for even better plot arcs in part 2. So far, Two Blue Vortex has been a hit among fans of the manga, and those who love the anime can’t wait for the next series.

The big question now is when will that series happen? A new chapter of the Two Blue Vortex is released every month, with chapter 7 reaching fans earlier this week. As for the next anime series, no release date has been confirmed. It’s never easy to contemplate a long wait for the next installment of a much-loved series, but from what we’ve seen so far, part 2 will be worth the wait.
