ANTONIO E. CORTÉS – Founder

Hey there, in 2018, I originally founded ThyGeekdom with a dream and vision of creating a place where my friends and I could talk about all the video games, anime, TV shows, and movies we grew up on. I identify as a 90s kid, so growing up it was first the SNES and N64 for me and then PlayStation, while watching anime on Toonami and late-night Adult Swim.

In an earlier stage of my life, I had a band and dreamed of traveling the world with my crew, but later realized I had a bigger passion for other things, which led to building the ThyGeekdom community.

Some of my favorite games include titles from the Final Fantasy (FF) series, Resident EvilSilent Hill 2Fallout: New VegasBloodborneNBA JamMetal Gear Solid, Portal 2Half-Life 2Thousand ArmsFlower, UndertaleSuper Smash Bros.Shadow of the ColussusPokémon: Gold Version, and Gone Home. Favorite movies: DriveThe DepartedPan’s LabyrinthPacific RimCaptain America: Winter Soldier, Tropic ThunderInsidious Part 1 and 2Skyfall, and The Shining. Favorite shows: The OfficeBreaking Bad, and West World. Favorite comics & manga: Kingdom ComeUzumakiThe SandmanParasyte, The WakeRanma 1/2, and the Marvel Noir series. Favorite anime: Cowboy BebopDeath Note, Wolf’s Rain, Record of Lodoss WarDragon Ball ZAkiraStudio Ghibli moviesthe Rebuild of Evangelion film series, Ghost in the Shell, and the Gundam series, specifically the Universal Century (UC) timeline.

Fun fact: As a 6 to 8-year-old, I wanted to be Indiana Jones when I grew up, and dressed up as him for every Halloween.

Úna Bergin – Content Writer

When Antonio first told me about his vision for ThyGeekdom, I knew it was something I wanted to be part of. I have always loved stories, whether they’re in the form of a book, TV show, movie, video game, or board game. The people I like most are the ones who get passionate about the things they love and find it hard to stop talking about their favorite characters.

I have been writing since I was a child and won my first Write-A-Book Competition at the tender age of 6. Unfortunately, I couldn’t spell and my early work is mostly unintelligible. I went on to write fan fiction for several years, during the glorious gap between the sixth and seventh Harry Potter books – what a time to be alive. Thank you, Mugglenet, for getting me through my teens.

My adult life has taken a few unexpected turns. I was a doctor for a while but have happily swapped medical journals for creative writing, fiction, and blog posts.

My favorite book is I Capture The Castle by Dodie Smith, and my favorite series is The Wind on Fire trilogy by William Nicholson. My favorite TV show is Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal, although I was a CSI nut in my younger and more vulnerable years – Las Vegas, of course. My favorite Disney song is Colors of the Wind.

I love sunrise swims in the sea, the sound of wind chimes, and singing out loud. I dream of traveling the world and having my own dog someday.

I also wanted to be Indy when I grew up.
